Muffled Protest

Muffled Protest presents traces of a muffled protest which spread from Cockatoo Island around Australia. As both major political parties in Australia sought to profit by invoking fear of asylum seekers during the 2010 election campaign, the ‘art gang’ boat-people.org invited friends and strangers across the nation to appear in public spaces in a collective display of dismay: to stand, their faces erased by the Australian flag, anonymous individuals blinded by nationalism. A statement of ambiguous, personal and silent declarations that quietly linked borders and interventions, the edge and the interior, under the flag.
